Restoring Fiscal Responsibility and Accountability in Clark County

By Duncan Hoss

As a lifelong public servant and Clark County resident, I’ve seen firsthand how government decisions—especially financial ones—affect working families, small businesses, and our overall quality of life. That’s why I believe it’s time we refocus our county government on the foundational principles of fiscal responsibility, transparency, and accountability.

Government should never forget whose money it’s spending. Every dollar collected in taxes comes from someone’s hard-earned paycheck. We have a duty to manage those funds with discipline and foresight—not to grow government for its own sake, but to ensure essential services are delivered efficiently and effectively.

Unfortunately, as budgets expand, so too can waste, duplication, and a lack of oversight. Without strong leadership and proper checks and balances, taxpayer dollars can be misused or funneled into programs with little value to the public. That’s unacceptable.

We must limit the financial burden placed on our community. Families are already facing rising costs—food, housing, fuel—and they deserve a county government that’s looking out for them, not adding to the strain. This starts by holding the line on unnecessary tax increases and thoroughly reviewing spending practices to ensure we are prioritizing what truly matters.

Transparency is not optional—it’s essential. The public deserves to know how decisions are made, how budgets are allocated, and who is being held accountable when things go wrong. We must make information accessible and understandable, not buried in red tape or bureaucracy.

If elected to the Charter Review Board, I will advocate for common-sense reforms that reinforce fiscal discipline, promote honest governance, and restore trust between the county and its residents.

It’s your money, your voice, and your community. Let’s bring accountability back to county government.
